Mission Moments

In the latest newsletter from Jesse and Sophie Bentley, our missionaries to Spain, it talks about them being welcomed back to the ministry after a six-month furlough. It must have been very exciting to get back to working with the students at the University of Salamanca. There are seven full-time missionaries on the team, as well as seven exchange students from five different universities this semester. The exchange students spend a semester taking classes, improving their Spanish, and working with the ministry to help the Spanish students learn about the love of Jesus.

Their spring semester has just begun and the theme the team has adopted for the year is “Connect.” (Does that sound familiar?) They’re striving to lead the students into connecting with God through worship, prayer, studying the scripture, connecting with each other through their community, and connecting with the world through service.

The staff and students are excited about their upcoming return trip to Portugal during spring break to build a Habitat for Humanity house for a family in need. This will be part of their “connecting with the world through service.”

Our church is so fortunate to be able to be a substantial supporter of the Bentleys through our missions giving and to have a part in bringing these young people to Christ.

Prayer requests from the Globalscope Ministry in Spain:

  • Please pray that we can continue to connect students to God, one another, and the needs of the world around them this semester through our activities, small groups, and one-on-one Bible studies.  Please pray for us to see God bring new students to faith this semester as we try to deepen the relationship we built with the new students in the fall.
  • Please pray for the new exchange student team to develop relationships with Spanish students quickly and to work hard at language learning.
  • Please pray for our mid-semester mission trip to Portugal (April 2-8) to build a house with Habitat for Humanity. Please pray that the students will be able to raise the needed funds to make this trip happen.
